The Darkness Lees Cliffe Hall 8th Feb 2004
At long long last we got to see The Darkness, live at Lees Cliffe Hall Folkstone after the gig was postponed from last year. Vic Reeves turned up plus entorage and I have never seen the hall so packed. The Darkness were brilliant, loud but clear - I felt my clothes get buffeted by the sound - awesome. In the encore Justin was carried by a roadie through the crowd while he played. I have never seen anything like it - and got some pictures as he came within about 4 foot of us - picture attached.
The support act were rappers from Newport. We stayed in the bar for that bit.

The Darkness have been growing on me since I saw them at Knebworth last August. By the time I found out they were playing at Leas Cliffe Hall, tickets were completely sold out. I purchased two tickets from ebay for £100 the week before the feb gig and I must say although it broke the bank it was definatly worth every penny.
I took my mum for her 50th birthday present and it truly was night to remember. I said before we went that I wasn't paying that kind of money to pushed to the back and we stuck our ground and stayed at the front the whole time. It was amazing. The gig was spectacular but cannot seem to find many reviews of it on the internet. I did notice that it was filmed through the night and wondered whether this is going to released?

Hello, yur old mucker Gazza here! I was at the DARKNESS gig too! Being a little older than Simon I stood behind him to allow his body to absorb most of the pounding audio bombardment, allowing me to appreciate the subtle nuances of almost classical guitar riffing, sparkling lyrics, a fashion show to die for and a free beer shower! It was a fantastic night that took me back to the days of yore when I used to drag ass to the Leas to see such monsters of rock as SPLODGENESS ABOUNDS, THE ENID, GIRLSCHOOL, THE BOOMTOWN RATS, HAWKWIND and many others I was too drunk or am now too senile to recall!! Sadly I do remember seeing Misty in Roots but am too embarrassed to mention this. As mentioned by Simon, the Welsh (C)rappers were a strange choice of support act and were deservedly ignored by any and all music efficianados and were only tolerated by the sad b.....ds who wanted a place down the front. Vic Reeves' appearance in a sheepskin coat in 40 to 50 degrees centigrade of the upper balcony only heightened my wondering as to why his first name isnt Richard. I was also disappointed to learn that you are banned from crowd surfing if you are over 40, grey haired and weigh in at 15 stone in your pants! (Personally I think it was the pants that did it, obviously grey string Y fronts arn't as popular as they used to be). A big thank you to Paula for driving and wife Jo for not dumping me!
