Branson abseils down Canary Wharf tower

I have just spotted Richard Branson abseiling down the North East corner or Number 1 Canada Square - the Tower with the pointy roof. When I say abseil he wasn't lowering himself down a rope using proper abseiling gear, he wasn't bouncing down the windows as you are meant to, he was tied off in a sling and the rope paid out at the top - which in my book is being lowered as in "bosuns chair", so my headline should be:

Branson cheats death in dramatic lowering down Canary Wharf Tower

They waited for a helicopter to arrive and we could count one camera on a boom and one handheld camera at the top, one handheld cameraman on a swing seat being lowered down with Branson (hope he got paid well!) and at least one in the helicopter. There were other cameras at ground level as well.

Branson looked quite bored on the way down occasionally waving to startled office workers in the tower as he glided past. Through my binoculars I saw one girl turn her head and jump back with surprise as she found the bearded wonder entrepreneur hovering outside her window. Then she excitedly waved for colleges to come over to see 'Dick Daringly' as he plummeted ever downwards.

I took some photos and will post them up later.

Update!

Pictures. Bransons in the white helmet. The second and third images were taken by pressing my camera against my binoculars lense - not bad! Please click on a photo to get a larger image.

We believe the rappel (Americanism for abseil) was done for Branson's new American tv show where he gets to show off all the Virgin businesses and products he can each week. Similar to the popular Apprentice, Donald Trumps vehicle. If you know different please add a comment!

Mr Cox. Extra-curricular activity me thinks. Fair play though. I'm no tabloid hack but perhaps a more attention grabbing headline could have been "Virgin Head observed going down on large protuberance".

PS. If we have any vistors from latitude : 40.7429663 longitude : -74.0601919 remember to cover up the AR doctored picture.

Take it easy - any cr@p comes up - forward it to me. Enjoy your BHWE.
