A very long engagement

We went to see A Very Long Engagement at the cinema on Saturday night. I wasn't too happy about going as I really wanted to see Team America or the Meet the Fockers but Paula had invited our friends Des and Mary to go with us so I didn't get a chance to put my case for the other films.

And in some ways I am pleased I lost that decision. I was expecting the film to resemble the recent early 1900's style Stella Artois adverts and in some ways they did. What I was not expecting was a superb cinematography, a brilliant plot line with touches of humour sprinkled in unexpected places and the occasional g force as Jean-Pierre Jeunet direction takes you off in another direction for a while.

The sets are stunningly beautiful and ooze realism. The detail is painstaking.

Although the film is in French and has subtitles it is really worth seeing.

And you can see the trailer over at Apple.

"Un long dimanche de fiancailles" is an absolutley superb film with a touch of french humour.I'm looking forward to watching Audrey Tautou's next film--the Da Vinci Code.
