Movable Type 3.2 CSS architecture

As you may know I am updating this site at present. Six Apart have done a wonderful job of updating Movable Type to version 3.2 but there is a huge amount of confusion amongst the users about the CSS. A lot of people delve into MT thinking that it should be easy to adapt - and it is, if you know what your doing. It is not MT's fault that CSS is complex.

The initial issue is that MT3.2 uses several style sheets to create a page an with the new StyleCatcher(another bit of wizardry from Brad Choate) plug-in you are able to quickly switch ready made styles. A lot of people will be using these pre made styles as the basis of their own design and they need to know what is happening.

Here is the Architecture:

The blog page makes a call out to a single css file - styles-site.css - which in turn calls two other css files - base-weblog.css and theme-vicksburg.css (this is the default).

When you change themes in StyleCatcher MT changes the theme-vicksburg.css to the css file of your choice by updating the @import link in styles-site.css.

base-weblog.css is the default framework for the pages and you really should not alter this if you want to be able to use the MT css designs from the box.

Hi I recently received Cracking The Da Vinci Code as a gift but when I got round to looking at it I realized that the book does not start until page 49. All the pages before it are from a totally different book called ‘Leave no Man Behind’ see below. I have no idea who to contact in order to get the book replaced, any ideas?

Regards

Ian Campbell
