Upgraded to Movable Type 3.2
I have been putting off upgrading to Movable Type 3.2 from 3.11 for a while, initially because I wanted to see if there were any major issues still to come out of the woodwork and I have had hard times upgrading in the past - not that MT has been an issue but resetting all my templates up etc. have been the problem. However this time it's gone like a dream. It has taken me an hour to upgrade and half of that was staring at the screen wondering why it was so easy. A few weeks ago I read a blog post about upgrading MT strategies which was brilliant but despite weeks of searching I could not find it again so here is my stab at the same topic:
- First I created a new MySQL database named MT32 - I use Cpanel so this was just point and click stuff.
- Then I copied the MT3.11database data and tables into the MT32 database - this was using phpMyAdmin.
- Next I uploaded the zip into my cgi-bin folder, unpacked it and renamed the folder.
- I then renamed the static folder to mt32-static and moved it and its contents to the root level (they were in the cgi-bin and you don't want the there).
- Then I edited the mt-config.cgi file with the database settings and the paths for the static files.
- Next I put the url to the mt.cgi page in my browser and off it went - the script realising I was upgrading from 311 to 3.2 automatically upgraded the database. Brilliant!
- The next thing I did, and I always do this, is alter the topnav logo inside of MT. This is my new one:

- Then I spent half an hour looking at all the changes in MT3.2 - it is brilliant - well done Jay and the team!
