Nabaztag woes
I got Paula a Nabaztag for Christmas! It's a WiFi Rabbit that speaks to you telling you the time, if you have emails, conveying messages to you etc. Fantastic stuff except that when we went to set it all up the Nabaztag website was very flakey. Eventually we were able to get it registered (lucky us by the sounds of it) and subscribe to a couple of services, such as the weather read to you twice a day. Later on Christmas day the my.nabaztag.com site, where you set up all the parameters, was just unobtainable and eventually they put up a message saying sorry due to excessive demand they have some problems. So logged in yesterday - no Christmas message this time just a shut for maintenance message - and its the same today.

I fully understand that they may have been overwhelmed by people trying to register and then set up their Nabaztags but hang on - they are the manufacturers and so should know potentially how many were purchased for Christmas! Its a French product so all we get is a shrug of the shoulders and an enigmatic look - though there press release yesterday said "Frankly, we feel a bit sheepish" which is silly as this is all about rabbits not sheep. I imagine that there are many very disappointed new owners of Nabaztags out there today.
And another thing. I ordered Paula's Nabaztag several weeks ago to ensure it arrived in time for Christmas. Since that point they have released a newer and better model. Guess how I felt when we logged in...
Hopefully the site will be up in a few days as this little product will be a real blast when it gets going!

I ordered a Nabaztag/tag (second generation) in November, and received it only days before Xmas. Having been away for the best part of the holidays, I didn't get much time to play with it, but as you say, it was dire planning on behalf of Violet. [Note: on the new vs old bunny front, I have to say I found the 2nd gen was fairly well advertised and available for pre-order from most sites I've looked at, so can't blame them too much for that one.]
I figure I'll let them sort out the bugs - for which they give an update here: http://nabaztag.typepad.com/nabaztablugs/ - and go back to the bunny in a few days.
My plan is to write a few services for it using the API, but the more I look into it, the more I'm concerned that, by sending everything through their servers, we're still at their mercy when they fluff up and we have to suffer!
Once I've sorted out my self-inflicted bunny name screw-up (I gave it a name that can't be pronounced very well, so I'll be getting it modified before I share it), I'll let you know and maybe the bunnies can befriend each other - or at least Paula's bunny can try out the services I write!
Cheers and a happy new year,
Vero
PS - Why do seagulls prefer the open sea to bays? (Because then we'd have to call them bagels!)
