New Pudsey bear

The BBC have spent a mint on creating a new image for Pudsey bear and its Children In Need charity and I for one don't like the new version of Pudsey at all. OK the old Pudsey has some flaws but it was recognisable as a child's toy - the new Pudsey looks like a jelly baby and not teddy bear like at all. The change from a multi coloured polka dot eye patch instead of the red polka dot eye patch is probably justified by complaints from the Government for being to left wing and a need to be more culturally sensitive. (So those with red hair - they don't like you no more - multi coloured hair is in.) Pudseys cheeks have grown fat (middle age spread) and he has lost his two buttons - he is naked! Plus the mouth is all wrong - it is no longer teddy bear like, it has been anthromorphised.

Pusey was probably up for a redesign as it has been 21 years since the first appearance - however only four more years and he would have reached 25 and would have been an iconic institution destined to last forever. Shame.

The versions.

Update!

OK! I have redesigned the new logo using the original Pudsey and altered him to add that element of action that was apparently missing.

I hate the new Pudsey, I can't believe they have changed such an iconic image to this simplified crap cartoon version. They have sort of updated Pudsey each year with 3D graphics and the like, but this really takes the cake. He is meant to represent damaged childhood (hence the bandage) while still being cute and a loveable image. I remember feeling sorry for Pudsey when I was very little because he looked quite sad and 'had a poorly eye' as my mum said. Now he looks like a fat, creepy human-bear with a pair of knickers over his eye. Great image.
I have been waiting to rant about this for some time, thanks for the opportunity. ^__^

I have to say, why change what ain't broken.... everyone knows Pudsey and what his image represents. It would be like changing a corporate logo.

Leave Pudsey alone, let him be more animated by all means, but the general look should have remained the same, besides he now naked!!! tut tut.

i think that the new bear is lovely its good to have a change its nice to have something new and different for Children in need..this is a big fund and changing the bear makes it more interesting.theres no big deal on what he looks like the main part is the money for the children.why argue over the looks of a bear?there are more important things.doesnt matter on the look.great new pudsey !!

The new Pudsey is actually a bogeyman who has kidnapped the real Pudsey and is taking his place in a 'poor mans Pudsey' fancy dress to get near the kids. Kick this pervert out!

The New Pudsey Bear is awful! I'm from the town of Pudsey that gave him his name, and wrote to the BBC to complain about his redesign. I wanted to know why they changed him to look like he'd been drawn by a child lacking in artistic skills, but all I got was a sarcy reply from some lame communications assistant about how they needed to animate him in the digital age (oh, and some tripe about how the charity was seen as tired - have you seen Terry Wogan recently??). I've seen plenty of mechandise where Pudsey is standing, running etc. so this was clearly a load of tosh designed to mask the fact that they changed him because they could, and for no other reason. I even tried to start an e-petition on the 10 Downing Street website, but they weren't having any of it. Maybe the only hope is to get Disney's lawyers in - have you noticed the uncanny resemblance between the new Pudsey and Disney's Winnie the Pooh???

17 November 16, 2007 4:36 PM Fliss

I can't work out whether the new bear looks like a) a gelatinous sack of shit; b) a close-to-the-bone 'homage' to Disney's version of Winnie the Pooh (another anodyne pastiche of a classic, but that's a different kettle of fish altogether); or c) both. I am going to write to Disney on account of b) to point out the similarities. They are litigiously protective of their 'brand' so hopefully will sue the ass off the BBC, thus forcing the reinstatement of the original.

where can i buy a new pudsey i think his cool.

19 November 16, 2007 8:40 PM Xx~{L}ollipop~xX

I think the old Pudsey was sooo much better because he was cuter. The new Pudsey is good but the other one has been around for ages and every one knows who it is!

BRING BACK THE OLD PUDSEY!!!.......Please

20 November 17, 2007 1:38 AM Jason

I think the new pudsey is awful. Its computer generated and no longer recognisable as the symbol of children in need. The new pudsey just looks wrong - the original has been around for so long I dont think anyone will ever accept this new design as pudsey bear, I know i won't. It aint pudsey if you dont keep the original design and I know the loss of the real pudsey made children in need night a lot less fun. I spent more time sulking about pudsey than enjoying the show

21 November 17, 2007 11:46 PM Billie

I think the new pudesy SUCKS! It scares me, it looks, as said by my little sister, like he's about to mug you. (She also cried 'Imposter' when the new pudsey appeared.)
It was really creepy, I shouted my mum and she said she thought it was rubbish. They should have left him as he was, with his cute eye patch and buttons and stuff. He's too round and he seriously looks like he's eaten every pie in Britain between this year and last. He just isn't cute anymore.
He's creppy and weird. And on the CBBC website you can dress him up as a girly ballerina (I thought he was a guy bear?!?!)
I really think they should bring the old pudsey back next year because I know quite a few people who'll be too scared to actually look at the screen while the new pudsey is on it.
I know it seems stupid ranting over a bear but pudsey is practically an institution. It's scary and not right.
BRING BACK THE REAL PUDSEY!!!!!

I thought Pudsey was supposed to represent ill children, and children in need of help.

How many ill children are really fat and run and jump around.

Pudsey is an icon. And is recognised around the world. Why change something which isn't needed? You wouldn't change the rememberance day poppy, "to catch up with todays image"

Bring back the REAL Pudsey
