Oceansize Islington Academy

Oceansize were at the Islington Academy last night and Paula and I met my sister Lou to go and see them after a quite bite in a Cuban restaurant. It has been a while since we have been to the Academy - so long in fact that they have pulled the whole area down and rebuilt it with a new Academy - this was probably years ago! Anyway the new pace is good if small - 800 capacity. The upstairs is OK if you are one of the twenty people standing at the rails otherwise forget it. The upstairs bar was empty when we arrived which was great!

Oceansize. What can you say about them - I really love their music but they are so hard to describe other than they play huge melodic long long drifty tracks. the sound last night wasn't that great but that might be my gig ears packing up or then again the acoustics of the academy.
Lots of youngsters their which was interesting and a good mix of gender. Paula's favourite track is Music for a nurse but they didn't play that - here is the Oceansize set list for the Carling Academy Islington 18t7 October 2007:

Commemorative 9/11 t-shirt
Unfamiliar
Remember where you are
Trail of fire
Savant
Catalyst
Sleeping dogs and dead lions
Long forgotten
Homage

- At this point there was a technical Balls up that meant The Frame was missed off the set list and they went straight into their encore which consisted of:

Paper champion
Ornament/The last wrongs

Great gig and a band more people really should take note of.
Who are Oceansize?
