Hacking Movable Type (ExtremeTech) arrived from Amazon.co.uk on Monday and I have read a good chunk of it. The authors, Jay Allen, Brad Choate, Ben Hammersley, Matthew Haughey, David Raynes are just about the top names in the field at the moment so this should be a primary read for anyone interested in extending their MT install. And lets face it if your not interested then you will have gone for Blogger or TypePad.

On the cover though part of the graphic says "Move Over Integrate a Moveable Type install into an existing website" but I have not yet found anything in the book about this important aspect of MT.

I think I need to read the whole thing before I pass a final judgement but so far it's OK but needs more. We shall see.

Rising stars The Magic Numbers have walked out of a Top of The Pops session because Richard Bacon referred to the band as having been put in a "fat melting pot of talent". Of course Bacon was mortified that the Magic Numbers took it the wrong way and walked out but having listened to Bacon on XFM for ages I am suspicious about his original motives. Looking at pictures of the band them I would not say 'fat' - maybe a bit chubby in places but aren't we all these days. Anyway its not about what they look like its about their brilliant music.

Just found (via Chad Everett) a Japanese website with images showing an automatic door that has horizontal strips that detect how far to open to let you in. As far as keeping the cold/heat out etc. they could be onto something. Even better if you paint the outsides of the strips to resemble a wall or some such feature - you have a secret door!
