Happy new Year 2005
Paula and I celebrated the new year by ourselves, first time ever I think and a good experience! Just after midnight we went out to the back of the garden to watch all the fireworks around Croydon - there were a lot and it was very very loud. I sort of had a feeling that this was what the town must have sounded like during the war in 1940 when the Luftwaffe were bombing Croydon airport. Tonight though was a happy occasion, very bright and fun!
Best thing of the year so far has to be the The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain playing Smells Like Teen Spirit on Jools's Hootenanny (BBC2). All seven of the orchestra were playing plus an acoustic bass guitar. Pure genius and certainly one of the best cover versions of Teen Spirit I have heard! I loved the fact that the 'lead' ukulele looked like a Gibson Ovation with the drilled leaves on the soundbox! Eric Clapton and the shows many celebs were 'going for it' during the rendition. Great start to 2005!
