Concorde's final supersonic day
24th October 2003 - a sad day for aviation as it is Concorde's last commercially operational day. Three flights will be landing in succession at 16:00 at Heathrow today, the last scheduled flight from New York, the Round Britain trip from Edinburgh and the staff flight round the Bay of Biscay where the original test flights were made.
Yesterday from my lofty perch in Canary wharf I was able to view the planes taking off and landing at Heathrow, with my binoculars - I don't have elvish site! But today the weather is a bit hazy so although I will be looking out for the three Concorde's' I may not be able to spot them - unless they do a fly past down the Thames which would be awesome.
The reason I am interested is that I flew in Concorde last year, before its demise was announced, on a flight back to London from New York and it was an experience I will never forget. Today I am wearing my Concorde cufflinks which I purchased onboard at 1500 miles per hour at over 63,000 feet! Supersonic!
