Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi on DVD

I pre ordered Zatoichi a while back and we watched it last night. Paula was not sure she wanted to see this film but ended up thoroughly enjoying it. It's about a legendary blind sword master.

I pre ordered Zatoichi a while back and we watched it last night. Paula was not sure she wanted to see this film but ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Me too! It’s about a legendary blind sword master who travels as a masseuse around Japan and this film concentrates on his adventure in a small village and how he deals with the baddies. The character builds are great with many amusing moments. How many films have you seen where a baddy draws his sword accidentally cutting the chap next to him - loosing all their cool and bravado!
Having seen the Hida-no-sato (Hida Folk Village) village museum at Takayama I could appreciate how authentic the sets really were. We did get a bit lost on one or two places where on reflection they had been showing the characters remembering scenes from their pasts and it has subtitles, which may put some people off, but not us! As the Times put it a quite quite brilliant film. Recommended.
